A New Year, a New Relaxed You!

All that preparation, all the celebrations and excitement for that one special day is over. New Year resolutions are in full swing for some and the return to the usual routine has commenced.  For many of us a new year brings new challenges, new goals to for fill, and new beginnings.  We tend to put ourselves under more pressure and stress to complete all of these, and in turn this pressure starts to affect our health.

Why not spend a little more time on yourself and relieve a little more pressure by introducing or increasing relaxation time within your busy routine.  Relaxation is allowing physical and/or mental tension to be released. Tension is the body’s natural response to threat, part of the body’s survival mechanism. It can be a very useful response, but a lot of the time, we don’t need this tension, so it’s okay to learn to let it go, and learn some relaxation skills. Healthy living is a matter of balance. Relaxation is part of the balancing process alongside other aspects of your lifestyle such as what you eat, your physical activity and how you handle stress. Learning to relax takes practice, as with learning any new skill.

Forms of Relaxation

Relaxation comes in many forms and some work best for some but not for others, so it’s important to find your personal preferred method.  Whether it’s a catch up with friends, exercise, listening to music or some form of complementary therapy like Reflexology.  It is very important to include these into our everyday life to make sure we have a healthy balance.  It doesn’t have to cost you anything and it doesn’t need to take a long time to complete, but it will have a positive outcome on your health and mind.

So this year when you’re planning your New Year resolution, try to include relaxation time into the schedule.
